Lighting ideas for the mandap decor

Indian wedding decors have always been breathtaking but the mandap decor has certainly changed the whole game. From a palace-like setup to amphitheater style decor, wedding planners have taken an oath to provide their clients nothing but perfection and royalty. Well, in order to do so you have to give it a thought before deciding the type and amount of lights used in the mandap decor. The lights will determine the quality of your wedding pictures, the mood of the event and how it enhances the decor.

As most of the rituals are carried out on the mandap it is considered as the Mecca of the whole wedding venue. It has to be well lit as all your guests’ attention will be towards the mandap.

Lit up curtains

Well, if you want to add a twist to this conventional decor style, drape fairy lights vertically along with the tucked curtains on each pillar. They hide the actual lighting piece and also provide a very nice illusion of diffused lights. The canopy can also be lit up with the same lights as they will enhance your photographs and make them perfect. Along with the fairy light curtains, some pearl strings of varying lengths are also used as they compliment them very well.

Combination lights

The only word that describes this decor is extravagance!  Multiple combinations of lights are used here and the natural canopy is to die for.  The mandap is set up between two giant trees that are festooned with dozens of string lights. The whole frame of the mandap is lit up but the grand chandelier in the centre steals the show. You can also add some bulbs from the canopy to make it more contemporary and modern.

Go with the simple sitting furniture as the decor is already decked up. Some branches and flowers are put up together with fairy lights to create the front which adds some chicness to the decor.

Cascading ceiling

Simple string lights are used here to create this piece of heaven. Keep these light garlands of varying sizes and place them casually. Such kind of decor requires no dramatic centerpiece as they look perfect as it is. Get beautiful couple photos clicked under the roof that create this amazing blurry effect in the background. If you want you can pair these gorgeous installations with some floral garlands too.

This setup can be done for a cocktail stage party as well. For making a statement piece with these lights, bundle some of the strings to create a ball at the end of every light garland.

Chic canopy of bulbs

A very nice alternative for good old fairy lights are giant overhead bulbs. They are more stable, provide better lighting and are very easy to install. Perfect for an open stage style mandap, this decor is elegant, classy and very modern. The bulbs have enhanced the ombre background and the cascading ceiling as well.

The color palette of coral pink, light pink and white is pretty simple but the right lighting pieces help them to get noticed. Some spotlights can also be placed behind the couch in order to balance the whole lighting setup.

Statement piece for the alter

Chandeliers as centerpieces have now taken a backseat as it can be a bit expensive to rent them or a tad bit difficult to install them. So, why not create a centerpiece with our good old string lights?  This setup is perfect for an altar -inspired by western weddings. Grab a dozen fairy lights in order to attach them from one point in the centre of the ceiling and then disperse the arrangement as to attach it from an edge of the ceiling.

But you need to build an arch-like altar for achieving the same design. It not only looks ravishing but will also work wonders for your wedding photos.

A wall of candles

There is nothing more beautiful than an entire wall festooned with candles. Go for golden candle holders to add a splash of shimmer to the decor. These look very adorable when put together but go for different sizes of candles to provide character and chicness. You might need like a hundred of these in order to cover the whole backdrop, so there is no need for extra light equipment as they will lit up the ambiance quite well!
